What typically has been used to increase the efficiency of material flow, a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) is being applied to provide insight to supplier constraints. Information gathered for a PFEP answers questions about each part such as: how many, where its required, and when it’s needed. An extension of this master plan can also answer whether your supply base can deliver. Collaboration with your supply base using a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) can provide visibility into supplier capacity constraints months in advance.

Supplier constraint visibility requires gathering information about your supplier’s ability to produce a given amount of parts at a particular time. An old approach required communication with suppliers via telephone or email. The information gathered was then documented and stored for use by a supplier assurance department of a manufacturer. This old process was time consuming and labor intensive. With the addition of a few more fields, a web-based PFEP can provide the collaboration vehicle necessary to give suppliers a heads up to demand spikes while giving manufacturers timely notice to a supplier’s constraint issues. This global master plan can be used to provide executives with dashboards that indicate which plant’s models will be affected by what constrained parts.
